Trees Planted!!

The Goal: Plant 800 Trees in the City by 2028
What is this?
In 2025 the City of Coshocton received a Forest Service Grant through the United States Department of Agriculture
The grant is intended to support tree planting, tree inventorying, the removal of diseased trees, and stump removal within the city's Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) neighborhoods. Each participating community submitted its own proposal outlining the number of trees to be planted and related project goals. Coshocton's application was approved and awarded funding in the amount of $1 million.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the City of Coshocton and the Coshocton Tree Commission. Connie Miller, a member of the Tree Commission, is serving as the local project coordinator. Leonard Dolce has been retained as the project's consulting arborist, and the Ohio Regional Development Corporation will oversee grant administration.

Tree planting and related activities will be carried out over the next three years. Successful implementation will require careful planning, coordination, and community involvement. In addition to the efforts of the City and Tree Commission, residents and volunteers will have opportunities to participate in beautifying and enhancing neighborhoods throughout Coshocton. As part of the grant program, a tree planting training session will be offered for individuals interested in assisting with the project.

Residents may choose from a selection of small trees that mature at approximately 15 to 20 feet tall, as well as medium-sized trees that can reach heights of 20 to 50 feet. Community volunteers will handle the planting process, including digging the hole and placing the tree.

Trees may be planted in front, side, or back yards, with site locations reviewed beforehand to ensure safe spacing and clearance from underground utilities.

To help each tree get off to a healthy start, volunteers will apply mulch, install support stakes, and provide a watering bag. These supports will remain in place throughout the growing season and will be removed in late fall. Participants will also receive information on proper watering and long-term tree care.

A record of each tree planted on private property will be maintained, and property owners must provide written authorization before planting can take place.

About HelpCoshoctonPlantTrees.com
This page is not owned by the City of Coshocton. It was setup by Lance Hall and Samson Hall (Residents of Coshocton County). On August 29, 2026 we volunteered our morning to plant trees near Fifth and Vine (I think we did 7 total), along with a few others. It was during that time that Connie mentioned the need to get the word out about this program, so we decided to help spread the word online. We created HelpCoshoctonPlantTrees.com to highlight the work that has been done and how people can help.

We also sell model railroading trees that are made in the USA, and part of the promise we made to the modeling community was to donate a portion of the tree kit sales to planting real trees, we wanted to add to that commitment by helping Coshocton and mention the work through our giving back effort.
